Q. Can you combine several photos
into one portrait?
A. Yes. It is often the case that the best pictures of multiple subjects are taken at different times.
Q. How many people can you
put in a portrait?
A. To achieve the best result,
it is recommended that there be
no more than:
11 x 14 portrait - 2 people/subjects
16 x 20 portrait - 3 people/subjects
18 x 24 portrait - 4 people/subjects
If you have more than 4 subjects, we recommend several portraits that you can hang in a grouping.
Q, What is the largest portrait you can do? and Can you do anything smaller?
A. To achieve the striking detail in his custom portraits Yai uses a special archival quality paper that can produce a 21 x 29 portrait maximum.
In order to achieve the detail his work is known for, the smallest size portrait Yai can do is 11 x 14.
Q. Should I get a white or black background?
A. This depends entirely on the subject. Some will look best with white and others with black. We recommend allowing the artist to make this decision as he completes the work.
Every portraits starts with the same white paper and the background is either left white or made black to enhance the subject and make it "pop" off the paper.
Yai begins each portrait with an idea of which will work best but occasionally changes his mind as the work progresses.
This is why we actively discourage deciding in advance which to use.
Q. Can you make changes to my photo?
A. Yes. (and No). We will happily accommodate most request such as changing the clothing, making freckles less pronounced, leaving out people, adding two photos together etc.
For example, what we cannot do is change someone with thier eyes closed to having their eyes open. Or if someone it turned away from the camera we cannot have them looking at the camera.
We recommend sending several photos and a description of what you would like to have done and allow Yai to give you a free consultation.
